In contributing to a general education for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12, the Board and staff of School District No. 47 (Powell River) are committed to providing learning opportunities that help every student:

1. Develop essential skills in obtaining and processing information, solving problems, thinking critically, and communicating effectively.
2. Acquire a fund of basic knowledge concerning the principles of the sciences, the record of human endeavour, and current social issues.
3. Acquire the habits and attitudes that promote pride in achievement, physical health, emotional well-being, and satisfaction in work and leisure activities.
4. Participate in and develop appreciation for artistic and creative expression.
5. Apply the foregoing knowledge, skills, and attitudes in being a socially responsible citizen now and in the future.

Through the process of striving for these goals, students should be prepared for a lifetime of continuous learning and adaptation in a work of changing opportunities.

The primary goal of the Powell River school system is to foster the intellectual development of students, with the support of families and the Powell River community. Enabling students to achieve social/emotional development and career goals is a responsibility shared by our schools, our families, and our community. These goals apply to all students, including students with special needs.

Students with special needs have disabilities of an intellectual, physical, sensory, emotional or behavioural nature, a learning disability, or exceptional gifts or talents. Such diversity poses challenges and opportunities for students, parents, and teachers. It demands that we examine what we do and how we do it, keeping in mind the best interests of all students in our schools.
