It's Literacy Week! Read All About qSD’s Early Literacy Momentum

In the spring of 2024, The Province announced the rollout of universal, evidence-based literacy screening for all Kindergarten to Grade 3 students, supported by a $30-million investment over three years. This funding is expanding provincial outreach teams and providing districts with literacy-focused in-service and training for teachers and support staff. Here in the qathet School District, we are proud to be ahead of the curve. qathet School District adopted and began using the evidence-based screener 5 years ago with our K-7 students, giving our educators a strong foundation to build on.

Now, as the provincial training and outreach supports continue to grow, our district is expanding its own teacher learning, strengthening intervention practices, and applying these tools across classrooms and schools to support the diverse literacy needs of all students.
