Students in other ferry-dependent communities travel for free to sports and school-related events and Powell River area kids deserve the same benefit. In order for BC Ferries to implement a program similar to what is in place currently for student travel on the Lower Sunshine Coast, a fare increase averaging 0.8% would be required on the Rte 17 (Powell River-Comox) in order to offset the free student travel. This proposed increase amounts to approximately $0.10 for foot passengers, $0.40 for cars and trucks and about $0.05 per foot for commercial traffic. This survey will be available to the public until July 01, 2015, at which time a decision will be made as to whether to implement a student travel program for Rte 17 commencing September 2015.
Please take the time to answer a quick survey to collect responses to the proposed increase. The survey can be found at http://fluidsurveys.com/surveys/nscfac/ferries/
