The qathet School District is proud to be a member of the BC SOGI Educator Network. Since everyone has a sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI), SOGI-inclusive education aims to raise awareness and create safe and caring schools for all students, staff, and families.
To support this work, members of the qathet School District SOGI Committee’s Advisory Group provide input on Committee activities and share relevant information across the wider school community.
Advisory Roles & Responsibilities:
- Understand the roles and activities of the SOGI Committee
- Share about Committee activities within your rightsholder group(s)
- Share specific observations about successes and challenges related to SOGI-inclusion in the School District
- Participate in initiatives that further the goals of SOGI-inclusive education
- Maintain confidentiality and individual privacy rights
Terms of Service:
- 4-5 meetings per school year (3:45-4:30pm) at the School Board Office
- Now - June 2026, with possible renewal of another 1-2 year term
SOGI Advisory Committee Membership Composition:
Parents or Primary Caregivers: (Up to 3 seats)
- Preference will be given to those with relevant lived experience or whose children self-identify under the 2SLGBTQIA+ umbrella
Current qathet District Students: (Up to 3 seats)
- High school students
- Preference will be given to members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community or those who have family members who self-identify under this umbrella.
