James Thomson Elementary strives to provide teachers with the appropriate technology to provide students with the tools of success. We have recently purchased 15 netbooks to be used within the intermediate classrooms to supplement teach practice and allow greater access to technology as students work through their daily subjects. Classes will continue to use the lab for some work, but teachers are looking for ways to enriching their everyday lessons with technology in the hands of students.
We also began a new pilot project to use iPads as centres in the primary classrooms. These devices allow children to work on apps designed for specific numeracy and literacy goals. We will be loading educational apps to encourage learning and practice, as well as discovery and inquiry.
iPads/iPhones/iPod Touches at Home
If you happen to have an Apple iOS device at home we would love to find out apps that you have found that have been successful with your children. Obviously we are focusing on educational apps, but if you aren't sure please let us know and we would love to check it out!
In additional looking for your apps, we want to share what we have found as well. Below you will find a list of apps that we are using and brief description of what they are used for, and some of the skills that can be worked on with the app.
We look forward to working with all of you on this great project.
