February is Black History Month
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and contributions of Black Canadians and Black communities around the world. It is also a chance for students, families, and school communities to learn, reflect, and have meaningful conversations about history, identity, and equity, both in the past and present.
This year’s theme is “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries”. It marks three decades of celebrating Black History Month in Canada and recognizes the lasting impact of Black Canadians.
Throughout February, families and students are invited to explore and celebrate the diversity and accomplishments of Black Canadians. Discover stories of individuals who have helped shape our country’s heritage, contributed to our communities, and continue to inspire change today. Whether at home or in the classroom, there are many ways to learn, reflect, and honour Black brilliance.
