How to apply for dual credit (sponsored) programs in SD47:  

Please see Mrs. Larkin (tanya.larkin@sd47.bc.ca)  at Brooks Secondary for an application and more information. In order to be sponsored students must be school aged and a non grad.  There are re-requisites for each program, so please check the links below for each program, in order to gather more information. 

Health Care Assistant :

  • 24 week program offered in the spring and fall through Powell River's VIU campus
  • English 12 must be completed prior to starting the program
  • Criminal record check must be completed prior to starting the program
  • Term 1 is theory or classroom based, while terms 2 and 3 are practicum based (working in industry)


 Early Childhood Education and Care:

  • Full year program starting January
  • English 12 - must have received a C in English 12 
  • Criminal record check must be completed prior to starting the program
  • First Aid and CPR certifications prior to starting the program
  • Theory and practicum placements are combined, or ongoing,  throughout the program


Educational Assistant and  Community Support  

  • Full year program, various start dates
  • English 12 -  must have received a C in English 12 
  • Criminal record check must be completed prior to starting the program
  • Term 1 is theory or classroom based, while terms 2 and 3 are practicum based (working in industry)


Powell River Digital Film Program (SD47 program)

The Powell River Digital Film School offers comprehensive, hands on understanding of the world of film making. There has never been a more exciting time to gain entry into this thriving field. With the substantial growth of the independent film industry, digital film making and the increase in specially channels and support for student works, there are countless opportunities in this demanding industry. This program offers one dual credit course through Emily Carr - embedded in the program. 
Students in the program will receive the following credits, although there are additional options if needed:
  • Digital Film and Television 12
  • Community Service 12
  • Media Arts 12
  • Directing and Script Development 12
  • Dual Credit through Emily Carr - if desired (not required)
  • Career Life Connections 12 (if needed for grad)

 

Coast Mountain Academy (SD47 Program)

The Coast Mountain Academy is an enriched outdoor education program which focuses on character development through Leadership, Citizenship and Outdoor Adventure! The academy offers students a unique opportunity to obtain skills and certifications that prepare them for their future careers and studies. At this time there are no dual credit opportunities tied to this program. 
Students in the program will receive the following credits, although there are additional options if needed:
  • Outdoor Education 12
  • Leadership 12
  • Community Service 12 (possible WEX 12 credit)
  • Adventure Tourism 12
  • Career Life Connections 12 (if needed for grad)
