Free Community Event: A Conversation with Marie Wilson

We’re excited to welcome Marie Wilson, a journalist, educator, and one of three Commissioners of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, to qathet School District and the broader qathet community!
Marie spent six years gathering testimony from more than 6,500 residential school survivors and played a key role in documenting the history and lasting impacts of the residential school system. She is also the author of the 2024 bestseller “North of Nowhere: Song of a Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner.”
Marie will be speaking at our district’s first professional learning day on September 19th, followed by this public community event, which we’re proudly sponsoring in partnership with the Tla’amin Nation, qathet Regional District, Vancouver Island University, and the City of Powell River.
September 20th will be an evening of dialogue and reflection featuring a keynote speech, Q&A, and book signing, and we encourage students and families of qathet School District to join us at the Evergreen Theatre from 4-7pm.
Admission is free - click here for the direct registration link.
