October is 2SLGBTQIA+ History Month in Canada
October is 2SLGBTQIA+ History Month in Canada. It is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the history, contributions, and resilience of Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and other gender and sexually diverse people.
At qathet School District, we believe every student deserves to feel safe, respected, included, and valued for who they are. Every young person should be able to come to school feeling a strong sense of belonging and knowing they have a place where they can be themselves. Our schools have an important role to play in fostering environments where every student feels supported and has the opportunity to thrive.
Throughout the month, classrooms across our district may explore stories, literature, historical events, and the contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Canada and around the world. These opportunities help students compassionately learn from the experiences of others and deepen our collective understanding of inclusion, belonging, and human rights.
We all have a role to play in creating communities where everyone feels they belong. By listening, learning, speaking up, and standing together against all forms of homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and discrimination, we can help ensure that every student feels welcome, valued, and supported.

EGALE: Adults Supporting 2SLGBTQI Youth
“Every supportive adult can be a vital resource when supporting Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, and Intersex (2SLGBTQIA+) youth. Taking on the active role of an affirming adult can be vitally important compared to other lukewarm tolerances 2SLGBTQIA+ youth may encounter. Healthy and affirming conditions must be fostered actively, and in doing so, all youth, regardless of identity, will benefit.”
