Today and Every Day, We Celebrate Our Earth
This Earth Day, we’re reminded how fortunate we are to live and learn in this beautiful region of qathet, on Tla’amin Nation territory.
From our school doors, students get to step into rich outdoor learning environments surrounded by nearby forests, trails, lakes, mountains, beaches, and the ocean. These natural spaces are more than just a nice backdrop. They are classrooms that inspire curiosity, connection, and care for the world and land around us.
We live in a place that naturally calls us to protect it and learn from it daily, and we are also committed to doing so in our approach to education. Across the district, outdoor learning is part of every school, and this meaningful work not only aligns with our district values, which emphasize caring for the lands and waters that sustain us, but is also grounded in two of our Strategic Priorities: Cultivating Curiosity and Cultivating Integrity/Responsibility.
Through land and place-based learning, climate action education, and a focus on environmental stewardship and sustainability, as outlined in our district’s Sustainability Plan, students are supported in deepening their understanding of environmental issues while strengthening their connection to nature and the planet we get to call home.
Thank you to all the educators and teams who bring this work to life every day. Whether it’s field trips to the Outdoor Learning Centre, classroom conversations and lessons about sustainability, forest walks to explore mushrooms and native plants, work in school gardens, or support for student-led eco clubs and more, this work would not be possible without you.
Today and every day, we celebrate our earth, the students who are learning what it means to be stewards of the land, and the educators who help guide them.
