Attendance & Absences

Regular attendance is important for student success.

If your child will be absent, please notify the school as early as possible using one of the following methods:

  • SafeArrival App
  • Telephone message to the school office
  • Email to the office

If a student arrives late or leaves school during the day, they must check in or out through the office.

For safety reasons, please notify the school if your child will not be returning after lunch.

Arrival & Dismissal

Students are expected to remain on school grounds from the time they arrive until dismissal unless the school has received permission from a parent or guardian.

To help ensure student safety:

  • Follow posted traffic and parking signs.
  • Use designated drop-off and pick-up areas.
  • Drive slowly and watch carefully for pedestrians.
  • Please avoid parking in bus zones or designated staff parking areas.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during busy arrival and dismissal times.

Recess & Lunch

Outdoor play is an important part of the school day.

Students are expected to go outside during recess and lunch and should come prepared for the weather. Rain jackets, boots, warm clothing, hats, and sunscreen are encouraged depending on the season.

Students may eat lunch before or after outdoor play, depending on their classroom schedule.

Families wishing to have their child regularly leave school for lunch should contact the office.

Student Health & Illness

If your child is ill, please keep them at home until they are well enough to participate in learning and school activities.

Parents and guardians should inform the school of any medical conditions, allergies, or health concerns that may impact their child’s safety or well-being at school.

We rely on families to keep emergency contact information up to date throughout the year.

Medication at School

If medication must be administered during school hours, please contact the office before sending medication to school.

Appropriate medical forms must be completed and, in some cases, signed by a physician.

Students should not carry medication in backpacks, lunch kits, or pockets unless specific arrangements have been made through the office.

Bikes, Scooters & Active Transportation

Students are welcome to ride bicycles or scooters to school.

To help keep everyone safe:

  • Helmets are required.
  • Students should dismount at the school entrance and walk their bike or scooter to the designated storage area.
  • Bikes and scooters should not be ridden on school grounds.
  • Locks are strongly recommended.

Please note that the school and school district are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property.

Student Safety

Student safety is a shared responsibility.

Throughout the year, students participate in:

  • Fire drills
  • Earthquake drills
  • Lockdown drills
  • Emergency preparedness activities

Staff review procedures regularly to ensure students know how to respond safely in a variety of situations.

Technology

Technology plays an important role in learning at Westview.

Students are expected to use technology responsibly, respectfully, and safely. Families and students review and sign the district’s Acceptable Use Agreement before accessing school technology and online learning tools.

We encourage students to be positive digital citizens both at school and at home.

Lost & Found

Lost items are collected and displayed in the school’s commons area.

Families are encouraged to label clothing, lunch kits, water bottles, and personal belongings to help items find their way back home.

Unclaimed items are periodically donated to local organizations.

Volunteers

We value the contributions of parents, guardians, grandparents, and community members.

Volunteers support learning in classrooms, help with special events, accompany field trips, and strengthen our school community.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your child’s teacher or the school office. We also encourage families to become involved with our Parent Advisory Council (PAC).

Communication

Strong communication between home and school helps students succeed.

Families can stay informed through:

  • School email communications
  • The Westview Weekly (WAG)
  • The school calendar
  • Classroom communication from teachers
  • School social media and website updates

If you have questions or concerns, we encourage you to begin by contacting your child’s classroom teacher.

The Westview Way

Everything we do at Westview is guided by four simple expectations:

Be Kind.  Be Safe.  Be Respectful.  Be Responsible.

These values help us create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive school community where every student can learn, grow, and thrive.

We are proud of the strong partnerships between students, staff, families, and community members that make Westview such a special place to learn.
