House Teams
At Westview Elementary, every student belongs to a House Team.
Our House Teams help create a sense of connection, belonging, and school pride across all grade levels. By bringing students together in multi-age groups, House Teams provide opportunities for leadership, teamwork, mentorship, and fun while strengthening relationships throughout the school.
Whether students are in Kindergarten or Grade 7, they are part of something bigger than their classroom.
Why House Teams?
House Teams help us build community.
Through House Team activities, students have opportunities to:
- Develop relationships with students in other grades
- Build leadership and teamwork skills
- Participate in school-wide events and celebrations
- Demonstrate the Westview Way
- Develop a stronger sense of belonging and school pride
House Teams remind us that we are all part of one Westview community.
The Story of Our House Teams
Westview’s House Team system was introduced to strengthen school-wide connections and create opportunities for students to work, learn, and celebrate together.
For many years, students belonged to the Orange Otters, Blue Bobcats, Green Grizzlies, and White Wolves. While these teams served the school well, staff and students began discussing how the House Teams could better reflect both our local environment and the identity of our school community.
During the 2025–2026 school year, students were invited to help reimagine the House Team system. More than 220 students shared their ideas through surveys and discussions, helping shape the future of the program. Student voice played a central role in selecting new team animals and colours.
The result was a refreshed House Team system featuring four animals that are familiar throughout our region: Ravens, Bears, Otters, and Wolves.
Local artist Kobe Galligos worked with the school to create original artwork for each House Team, helping bring the new vision to life.
Today, every Westview student belongs to one of four teams:
Ravens (Purple)
Ravens are known for their intelligence, curiosity, and adaptability. They are skilled problem-solvers and strong communicators.
Students look to Ravens and are encouraged to think creatively, learn from challenges, and support one another as they grow.
Bears (Red)
Bears represent strength, courage, and leadership. They remind us of the importance of confidence, perseverance, and protecting those around us.
Students look to Bears and are encouraged to lead with kindness and determination.
Otters (Blue)
Otters are playful, social, and highly cooperative animals. They work together, care for one another, and bring energy and joy to their communities.
Students look to Otters and are encouraged to build friendships, collaborate, and contribute positively to school life.
Wolves (Green)
Wolves are known for their loyalty, teamwork, and strong sense of community. They thrive when working together and supporting the success of the group.
Students look to Wolves and are encouraged to demonstrate responsibility, cooperation, and respect for others.
