Westview Way

At Westview Elementary, we believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, connected, and supported.

The Westview Way provides a common foundation for how we learn, work, and interact with one another. It guides our decisions, shapes our relationships, and helps us create the kind of school community where everyone can thrive.

The Westview Way is built around four simple expectations:

Be Kind

Kindness means treating others with care, compassion, and empathy.

At Westview, kindness looks like:

  • Including others in games and activities
  • Using respectful words and actions
  • Helping someone who needs support
  • Celebrating the successes of others
  • Showing care for our school and community

We believe small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day.

Be Safe

Safety helps everyone feel comfortable taking risks, learning new things, and being themselves.

At Westview, being safe means:

  • Making choices that keep ourselves and others free from harm
  • Following school expectations and adult directions
  • Using equipment and materials appropriately
  • Reporting unsafe situations to a trusted adult
  • Helping create a calm and positive environment

When students feel safe, they are ready to learn.

Be Respectful

Respect means recognizing the value and dignity of every person.

At Westview, respect looks like:

  • Listening when others are speaking
  • Appreciating different perspectives and experiences
  • Taking care of school spaces and materials
  • Using good manners
  • Honouring the cultures, identities, and backgrounds of others

Respect helps build strong relationships and a welcoming school community.

Be Responsible

Responsibility means taking ownership of our actions and our learning.

At Westview, being responsible means:

  • Being prepared and ready to learn
  • Completing assignments and tasks
  • Taking care of personal belongings
  • Admitting mistakes and learning from them
  • Making positive choices even when no one is watching

Responsibility helps students develop independence, confidence, and leadership.

More Than Rules

The Westview Way is more than a set of expectations. It reflects the kind of community we want to create together.

We know that learning includes making mistakes, solving problems, and growing over time. When challenges arise, our focus is on helping students learn, repair relationships, and make better choices moving forward.

Our goal is not simply to manage behaviour. Our goal is to help students become thoughtful, caring, responsible members of their school and community.

Learning Together

Throughout the year, students explore themes such as belonging, gratitude, perseverance, caring, responsibility, courage, cooperation, and celebration. These themes help bring the Westview Way to life through classroom discussions, assemblies, leadership opportunities, and everyday interactions.

The Westview Way belongs to all of us—students, staff, families, and community members. By working together, we create a school where everyone feels that they belong and where every learner has the opportunity to succeed.

Be Kind. Be Safe. Be Respectful. Be Responsible.

That’s the Westview Way.
