June is Pride Month

Pride Month

Pride Month is a time to celebrate identity, belonging, and the many ways people show up in the world as their true selves. In qathet School District, we welcome everyone and are committed to creating safe, inclusive, and caring learning spaces where all students, staff, families, and community members feel they belong, are supported, and are valued.

Pride Month is also a time to honour the resilience and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual). It is a reminder that every person deserves to be seen, respected, and supported for who they are.

Pride began in 1970, marking the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Inn Riots in New York City. In Canada, early Pride demonstrations followed in 1971 in Ottawa and Vancouver, helping build the path toward greater visibility and inclusion.

In our school district, we proudly support SOGI-inclusive education and remain committed to fostering a “safe, inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment for all members of the school community, regardless of real or perceived sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions” (Admin Procedure 176).
